The new fund improving safety in fireworks factories is commendable as are the initiatives mentioned in the editorial ‘Stress on fireworks safety’ (March 24).

What is missing is the all-year-round adequate maintenance of access roads to fireworks factories. I recall five explosions in my home town and the main obstacle was always reaching the location. Ambulances, fire-engines, the police rapid intervention unit and security forces’ vehicles need well-maintained roads of adequate width to manoeuvre in case of emergencies. This is a very important safety issue also when transporting fireworks to their final location.
