I completed a tour of duty in the late 1970s as a civilian attached to the Royal Navy and was lucky enough to be allocated a flat in the St Patrick’s OMQ, which were situated just along the coast north of St George’s Barracks/Pembroke.

My wife and I have often holidayed in Malta in recent years and have been appalled to witness the complete dereliction that this once superb accommodation has fallen into. It now represents an absolute eyesore.

As far as I can research, since being vacated by the British Services, this complex had been put to various uses but now appears to have been completely abandoned although, obviously, must still be under the responsibility/ownership of somebody or other.

Given the extent to which the area of Sliema/St Julian’s/Pembroke and thereabout has been subjected to development, I would have thought that better use could be made of St Patrick’s in view of its extremely attractive location right on the coast.

Can anyone shed any further light here?
