Racing from the ASMK 2015-16 National Championship series returns this week following a brief period of inactivity for the festive season.

The final races from the Autocross Class A and B, for Modified and Standard cars, will be held on Saturday afternoon.

This programme was postponed last month due to bad weather and a slippery circuit.

Action shifts to the sister island on Sunday where another round from the Enduro championship will be held at a quarry on the outskirts of Qala.

This new site, which got the go-ahead from the authorities as all necessary permits were issued, is expected to offer new challenges to riders of all abilities.

Sunday’s racing series is supported by the Minister for Gozo, the Gozo Sports Board and Dunlop Tyres.

At present, Matthew Gauci is leading the Enduro standings following two rounds of the National Championship.

Yamaha rider Gauci has a maximum 40 points following two race wins. He is followed by Andrew Cassar (KTM), on 24 points, with Scicluna brothers, Ian and Joseph (both KTM), sharing third place with 22 points.

Bernard Sammut (KTM) is one point further back in fourth place ahead of Alex Sant Fournier, Andrea Scicluna and Victor Bajada (all KTM) with 17 points each.

Meanwhile, the ASMK has just held an annual general meeting during which new roles were assigned and fresh amendments to the rules were applied.

Following the retirement of Edgar Xuereb, who had served in the council for 20 years and helped to introduce significant changes at the motor sport organisation’s administration, members unanimously elected Manuel Camilleri as the new treasurer.

Camilleri is no new face to the ASMK, having held various other roles in the council before. He continues to keep his post as Trials Section president.

Other appointments were handed to Gordon Johnson (assistant treasurer), John Mamo (Motocross Section representative), and Malcolm Borg (Auto-cross Section treasurer).
