The CEO of ARMS Ltd, the State-owned utility billing company, has been suspended in the first action taken by a new board of directors.

The Government last night said the suspension of Wilfred J. Borg followed recent shortcomings at executive management level that affected the company’s credibility.

ARMS is carrying out an investigation that could lead to “disciplinary procedures” being taken against Mr Borg.

Henry Attard has been appointed acting CEO.

The new board is made up of Anthony Valvo, the Labour mayor of Xgħajra and an accountant, and directors Louis Giordimaina, Anthony Sultana and Justin Tabone.

Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi last week asked for Mr Borg’s resignation after ARMS had passed on incorrect information to the social security department. This led to beneficiaries receiving a reduced energy subsidy for April.

Mr Borg did not resign.
