The Armed Forces of Malta has signed a contract to purchase a second twin-engine helicopter.

The deal was done with AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company.

The helicopter will be used for border control and missions related to Malta’s search and rescue area. The delivery is expected for June next year, while the first helicopter will be delivered this June.

The aircraft has a maximum speed of 193mph, a range of almost 600 miles, and service ceiling of 20,000 feet. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for maritime patrol.
