Alternattiva Demokratika yesterday affirmed that it is the only party in favour of full voting rights for 16-year-olds.

AD chairperson Michael Briguglio told a news conference his party believes in youth empowerment and in full participation of young people in the democratic process.

“It is for this reason that we are the only party proposing that young people aged 16 onwards should have the right to vote in general, European and local elections.”

Dr Briguglio asked the Nationalist and Labour parties to endorse AD’s stand in time for the general election.

Reuben Zammit, AD spokesperson for youth, said that with the country gearing up for a general election, society is yet again set to lose the valuable contribution of its younger citizens.
