Alternattiva Demokratika has written to the Broadcasting Authority appealing for fair broadcasting in the eventuality of an election being called.

The Green Party asked the regulator to issue a directive to all TV stations, “in particular” One TV and Net TV, stipulating that representatives from all political parties be invited on all programmes debating issues related to the electoral campaign, general secretary Ralph Cassar said.

Present policy “goes against the basic tenets of democracy and pluralism”

The policy upheld so far to allow Net and One to exclude AD representatives, he complained, “goes against the basic tenets of democracy and pluralism, which are advocated by the EU, which Malta forms part of”.

Broadcasting Authority CEO Pierre Cassar informed the party its appeal would be discussed during the next board meeting, AD said on Sunday.

Chairman Michael Briguglio said the broadcasting regulator’s board included representatives from the Nationalist and Labour parties but excluded representatives from AD and the civil society.

AD has appointed Carmel Cacopardo and Andrè Vella to represent it at BA meetings on political broadcasts.
