A white rabbit running late and a Mad Hatters tea party are vital ingredients to the story of Alice in Wonderland and will form part of a colourful dance spectacle being staged by The Dance Workshop.

For the first time hip hop music has been included in the production

Following last year’s success of its Adventures of Pinocchio, The Dance Workshop is staging a complete show using several dance forms, photography, lighting and costumes to bring this fantastic story to life.

Inspiration has not only been drawn from Lewis Caroll’s original story, but also from several films, more recent renditions and several ballet versions of the story, which have become part of the repertoire of major dance companies.

Senior students and dancers are being coached in dance techniques as well as trained to be able to execute their miming roles as cards, flamingos and roses among others.

The Dance Workshop principal Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud has put together a delightful performance, which includes choreography by Francesca Abela Tranter, Pamela Kerr, Claire Cassola, Rachel Grech, Diane Portelli, Maria Louise Gingell and Francesca Bartolo.

For the first time hip hop music has been included and the choreography has been left in the capable hands of the studio’s resident teacher Sue Vassallo.

Jade Farrugia ably leads the performance with the role of Alice. She is backed through the performance by Keith Micallef in the role of the Knave of Hearts, Francesca Bartolo as the White Rabbit, Pamela Kerr as the Queen of Hearts and Karl Cini as the Mad Hatter.

John Grech is responsible for images being projected and Lucien Stafrace is creating props and additional scenery. Renzo Spiteri is music adviser and Ms Abela Tranter is responsible for lighting the performance.

This spectacle promises to be a magical night not to be missed for both regular and new theatregoers.

Alice in Wonderland is being presented at St Agatha’s Auditorium on April 3 and April 4. Performances start at 8 p.m.
