The Ian Tomlin Scholarship Trust is organising a fundraising concert titled A Wee Nicht Musick in the Music Room of St James Cavalier, Valletta, on May 18 at 8 p.m.
When the Ian Tomlin Scholarship Fund started in 1999, it was a new venture. The aim was to offer promising Maltese musicians the opportunity to further their musical studies abroad, thanks to the generosity of Ian Tomlin.
To date, the scholarship has helped several young musicians to study at the Ian Tomlin Academy of Music, which forms part of Edinburgh Napier University.
Thanks to the Ian Tomlin Trust, set up to take care of the fund, local musicians will be able to enjoy the benefits of this opportunity for years to come.
This recital is both a celebration of this venture, as well as a fundraising event.
The recital will feature past and present scholarship recipients, including pianists Veronique Vella, Gisèle Grima and Alexander Vella Gregory, as well as soprano Francesca Aquilina and flautist Laura Cioffi.
They will be performing a varied programme of chamber music, including works by Liszt, Debussy, and Ravel.
The recital will also include Vella and Vella Gregory, who are also composers, performing their own works.
Tickets are €10, and all proceeds go towards the Ian Tomlin Scholarship fund. For tickets you can phone on 2122 3200, or e-mail boxoffice@sjcav.org. Alternatively, log on to www.sjcav.org and buy tickets online.
