Following his well-received Thesaurus Melitense exhibition back in 2007, artist Brian Grima is back with his follow-up solo exhibition, aptly titled Thesaurus Melitense II.
A former student at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Grima’s love for Malta is reflected in his art, and he is in constant search of new treasures that inspire his paintings.
For this exhibition, apart from his usual ouvres, Grima is showcasing a series of artworks that are entirely dedicated to items, places or people he admires the most.
Artists such as Maria Callas, Marilyn Monroe, Sofia Loren, Salvador Dali, Tamara de Lempicka, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida and Pablo Picasso feature prominently in his works, together with a number of Egyptian artefacts and antique Maltese furniture, silver and architecture.
“Undoubtedly, the common theme is Malta. I consider our country to be a treasure trove of history and culture, hence the name of the exhibition,” Grima said.
Thesaurus Melitense II runs at the Casino Maltese, Republic Street, Valletta until next Sunday.
