A feast of Maltese culture, tradition and art will light up Qormi’s Main Street from Friday, as the village dresses up in spring colours and festive smells.

One year after Qormi broke the world record for baking the largest loaf of bread, the village will unveil a receptacle that can hold more than 5,000 bottles of wine

This year’s spring fest will be spread over three days, kicking off on April 20 at 7 p.m.

However, the highlight of the festival will be a giant wine glass that will be unveiled the following day and which the village hopes will etch its name in the Guinness World Record books. One year after Qormi broke the world record for baking the largest loaf of bread, the village will unveil a receptacle that can hold more than 5,000 bottles of wine. The festival will wrap up on April 22 with an open-air spring village boasting a colourful display of Maltese fruit, vegetables, and animals.

Traditional bakeries and other historical buildings dating back to the 14th century will be open for the public throughout the day.

Some 35 bakers will also take part in a traditional bread and sweet competition.

Throughout the festival, the St Francis square, on Main Street, will be done up in a typical Maltese festa atmosphere.

This event is being organised by the Kumitat Festi Esterni San Ġorġ Martri, the Local Council, Home Affairs Ministry and the Malta Tourism Authority.
