It is very unusual for both the government and the Opposition to agree on something but they finally accepted the concept that pensions should not be taxed. However, although they came up with this slogan it is very far from the truth, because in actual fact pensions are still being taxed to the full.

Unlike pensioners, all those who have an income have to exceed a ceiling before they are taxed, while for us pensioners the pension itself is our ceiling. Therefore any income we make is taxed. This is not the way to encourage pensioners to continue working. If the pension is included in our tax returns then it is being taxed.

What is pension after all? It is simply money taken by the government from our wages and saved for us so that when we retire, it is returned to us. Hence it is simply our saving. So why is the government taxing our savings?

Tax should only be on income, that it is why it is called income tax. So please, both you in government and in Opposition stop treating us pensioners as morons. Pensions should not be taxed.
