I refer to the article entitled A Libyan Split Would Be “Very Worrying” For Malta (March 8) and, in particular, the quote “We should be applauding Libyans for not butchering each other in the same way Syrians and even Egyptians have”.
Unlike what has been written in the article, the Egyptians were never butchering each other during or after the revolution. On the contrary, the Egyptian revolution was a unique one; its main slogan was Selmia (peaceful). It was a movement made up of people from all walks of life who united in their struggle against oppression.
Although the revolution was sparked off by anger that accumulated over the years, it was mellowed by a festive atmosphere, exuberant, alive, filled with chants, drums, and all sorts of creative forms of expressions. That is why the Egyptian revolution inspired and is still inspiring millions around the world.
