As part of the recently held prize day of the Convent of the Sacred Heart Foundation, St Julian’s, 140 students from the senior school took part in a musical performance entitled ‘A Musical Journey through Time’ in which they went back through time in search of the best piece of music ever written.

The students started by observing a 1835 ballet class practising to Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky. They then danced to the 1950s’ Rock Around the Clock, watched The Beatles performing Hey Jude and Help in the 1960s, saw Elton John and Kiki Dee singing Don’t Go Breaking My Heart and Abba singing Waterloo.

In the 1980s they entered a disco to see clubbers perform Michael Jackson’s Thriller and joined in to sing Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure, while in the 1990s they experienced a variety of styles and songs including Frozen and Express Yourself by Madonna and I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston.

Ultimately the main character decided she cannot chose one song as the best of all time, because each era had something particular.

Instead, she decided to compose a medley of all the songs for the 21st century, and together the students performed Human by The Killers.
