In 2006, Valletta Gateway Terminals Limited acquired a 30-year concession from Transport Malta for the operation and management of the Grand Harbour Terminal at Deep Water Quay, Laboratory Wharf and Magazine Wharf. The multi-purpose terminal is fully capable of handling containers, RoRo trailers and vehicles, conventional and project cargo, both domestic and transhipment. In 2011, VGT was also authorised to handle cruise liner passengers.

VGT strives for the very best in terms of safety and security and is in strict compliance to the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, ensuring security of all ships and port facilities. All VGT facilities are fully secured on a 24/7 basis. Recent upgrades to the CCTV system gives VGT a cutting edge in security and monitoring of the whole facility.
