A group of bearded men, who call themselves the Mo Bros, will this morning be shaving off the mass of facial hair they grew over the past months – except for a moustache.

Among them there will be two survivors: 16-year-old Jacob Cachia, known as Titanium Man, and his friend, Ian Cochrane, 45, who came up with the idea to set up the Mo Bros.

The group of about 10 men will proudly wear a moustache throughout the month of November to raise awareness about prostate cancer.

The Mo Bros will be among thousands of men around the world who grow a moustache during November – known as Movember – to raise awareness about illnesses that affect men.

Sometimes men are too proud to talk about these things

“Sometimes men are too proud to talk about these things. I like to say: if in doubt, let it out,” said Mr Cochrane who recently joined the Facebook support group Survivors Malta where he got to know Jacob who is a co-founder.

Jacob had contracted a brain infection in January last year and left the hospital in June following three operations that included removing part of his skull that could not be put back in place due to swelling.

The operation left the right side of his brain vulnerable and, some months ago, he underwent an operation to replace the missing part of his skull with a titanium plate – earning him the proud nickname Titanium Man.

Since then he has become a campaigner for survivors and their families.

Today, he will continue highlighting the cause – this time targeting male survivors – during the Movember shave-off at the Modern Salon in Żabbar at 10am where he and his Mo Bros will be wearing special T-shirts donated by member Antoine Magri.
