Apparently, according to PL leader Joseph Muscat, the coming elections are about choosing between him and Simon Busuttil, whereas according to the PN leader, the elections are about giving a vote of no confidence to the government.

And there I was thinking it was actually about choosing six persons to represent us in the European Parliament, silly me! Of course both of these messages imply that the candidates the respective parties are fielding are quite irrelevant. This election isn’t about them at all, or about Europe for that matter, they’re just an extension of local political bickering.

But what if I want to choose someone to represent Malta’s interests in the EP? What if I don’t want to choose which party leader has the biggest ego, nor do I want to waste the EP vote in giving an unrelated ‘message’ to the government?

I’d rather go for Alternattiva Demokratika, whose message is consistent and relevant to the actual election taking place. And if by doing so, I give a message to both of the larger parties to stop with the schoolyard behaviour, so be it.
