With reference to Mick Shepherd’s recent letter (July 14) I’m sure that if he takes my advice he’ll get hold of those “free medicines” that are currently out of stock. He can either buy them from any private pharmacy or else do as I did about three weeks ago.

At that time I needed Coversyl 4mg tablets which unfortunately were also out of stock at all government health centres as well as at Mater Dei Hospital. So guess what? I went home and looked up page 12 of an informative booklet entitled Saħħtek Għal Qalbna which was distributed free of charge some time ago with a local daily.

This booklet was compiled and issued by none other than the Ministry for Health, the Elderly and Community Care. I looked at the picture on page 12, closed my eyes and concentrated hard.

And voilà, as in a fairy tale, I suddenly found myself in one of the 113 pharmacies of your choice, somewhere in the north of Malta. I queued patiently, waiting for my turn. After some minutes, it was my turn and a helpful and affable pharmacist readily provided me with my then “out of stock” Coversyl 4mg tablets.

As proof of this, there are still three extra boxes of Coversyl 4mg tablets lying on the pharmacy’s counter for all to see.

I’m sure that the particular pharmacy also has those “free medicines” that Mr Shepherd needs. Believe me, it was a gratifying, fairylike experience worth trying.
