It seems Alexandra Vella (July 30) was misinformed on Casa Leone’s culinary service.
The new system of healthy meals was selected following nutritionists’ advice, taking into consideration the particular requirements of the home’s elderly residents.
Meals are delivered to Casa Leone every day in accordance with contractual obligations.
These meals are subject to periodical inspections by the authorities to ensure that all relevant regulations are rigorously observed, including food purchasing, storage, preparation, cooking, and distribution.
The contractor is bound by the applicable guidelines of quality assurance and with the provisions of the Food Safety Act, and all other regulations issued under this law, as well as any legislation and guidelines in force from time to time. The home also ensures the contractor maintains the highest standards required in all aspects, including food hygiene, delivery schedules and standards of transport methods.
Contrary to what Vella stated, all snack rounds were retained.
The home is not perfect but all staff members do their utmost to ensure that residents are treated with dignity and this food upgrade is another step in that direction.
The home, through subsidies from the Archdiocese of Malta, is actually investing more in a better culinary service rather than cost-cutting, as the correspondent implies.
