In the last paragraph of his piece entitled ‘Love and sex in parenting’ (February 18), Michael Conti said that “What children need is a caring and loving environment”.

The correspondent argued that gays and lesbians can create such an environment.

I assert: also a father and a mother can create a “caring and loving environment”. So why don’t we always let children to be adopted by a father and a mother when these too can create such a healthy environment? Why don’t we follow God’s plan on the upbringing of children?

Why should we deprive a child of the loving benefits and experience of an adoptive father or of an adoptive mother?

Why must we, right from the start, ban an adopted child the opportunity to celebrate both a Father’s Day and a Mother’s Day?

It would indeed be very cruel to deny a child the possibility of having both a father and a mother and constrain his/her into a lame adoption.
