I write to draw attention to a health hazard resulting from the works at the Citadel in Victoria.
My husband and I went to visit the cathedral and museum and to see how the renovation works were progressing. Everything is beautiful to look at but the ramp built alongside the cathedral steps is a treacherous slip hazard. It is as smooth as glass and would certainly not pass building regulations in the UK.
The surface has no grip - the gradient may also be unsafe. The irony is that this is supposed to constitute a safe passage for the elderly, the infirm, wheelchair users and a route for babies in pushchairs and prams.
I walked slowly down the ramp not anticipating a problem and wearing normal sandals when my feet slid out from under me. I ended up in hospital having X-rays and my holiday was adversely impacted upon as I will not be able to walk properly for a while.
I would like to warn everyone to be careful as a very serious accident is just waiting to happen.
The engineers responsible should revisit this ramp and carry out anti-slip measures as soon as possible.
