Some people may think that just because my principles are in line with those of the Labour Party I am the wicked witch. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I judge people by their character not according to which party they support. Take Pietru Pawl Busuttil, who has just passed away. What he lacked in stature he made up for with the heart of gold he had.

I first came into contact with this lovely man when our mayor and councillors were invited to Safi where he lived and served as mayor for a long number of years.

Such a beautiful, well-kept locality. I would really not mind living there for the rest of my life, though I adore Valletta.

He showed us around the council offices and addressed me as if we had been friends for life. He had this ability of making one feel familiar. At no point did he make us feel uncomfortable, as some people just love doing.

I felt desolate when I heard about his death. I know we all have to die but Busuttil seemed to have so much life in him.

The people of Safi should be very grateful to him because he always did his best for his village. Now, he has exchanged his beloved Safi for a better place: heaven.
