Kristina Marie Vella, a Form 2 student at St Clare College’s Pembroke Girls’ Secondary School, recently placed third in the sixth Super T Matik Mental Maths International Competition.

She managed to answer her 15 questions in a remarkable time of 53.63 seconds, beating around 212,000 other students from 52 countries who took part in the contest.

This was the second year running that the local school took part in the competition, which is organised by Portuguese learning and teaching resources publisher Eudactica.

Other Maltese students from the Pembroke school, St Benedict College’s Boys’ Secondary and St Theresa College’s Primary schools also took part this year, and the students’ collective results were such that Malta placed in an honourable seventh position out of the 52 participating countries.
