Never before has the difference between the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party been clearer for us.

This Nationalist government has become increasingly conservative and disconnected from the realities of modern life.

It has become increasingly self-serving in the way it has made its decisions, starting with a hidden pay rise. Through the Prime Minister, it has closed its eyes and ears to the will of the people, not only in the case of the divorce referendum but in the daily misery that mismanagement and broken promises have imposed upon us.

Labour have matured and strengthened not only in their ideas but in their approach.

They have become solitary defenders of fairness, equality, justice and individual liberty and around them have built a movement that will bring about the much-needed changes in Malta’s economy, education, environment, health and energy sectors, to name just a few.

This is why I and many others like me have been looking forward to the Labour National Congress that runs until Sunday.

It will serve as another step in uniting us as a nation, to move away from the outdated politics of government by the few for the few to an inclusive democratic society where fairness and freedom are enjoyed by all who form part of Malta.
