When it comes to living and governing, Christ said: “Be innocent as doves and wise as serpents.”
So why can’t we have honest governments giving a good example to our people and citizens, and to outsiders?
Is human nature so weak, and so corrupted, that we are incapable of rising above it?
Are we destined to groan under corrupt governments until the end of our days, with rare exceptions?
Why are we cynical, and critical much of the time? Are we perhaps right?
Alternative governments have to carry crosses too, of purity, innocence, wisdom, forbearance, criticism, rejection by the selfish and corrupt masses, doubt and lack of real values and faith.
What saved us in wartime were faith, hope and charity, apart from untiring outside help.
What can save us in ‘peacetime’ are the same faith, hope and charity, with a strong dose of real misunderstood Catholicism added.
When we have lost our Christian faith we are condemned to wallow in dirt and corruption. When we have regained our faith, we can revel in and enjoy not only a higher standard of living, but a lasting peace.
So let us believe in higher things, and in a better way to govern our country.
