A Christmas CD compilation by the name of Ħelu Bambin will be launched during a concert that will feature some of Malta’s most well-known singers.

Essentially picking up where the 2011 Christmas single Ħelu Bambin left off, the concept now has been expanded into a full-length album.

The album seeks to convey the true spirit of Christmas to the Maltese people, namely that this is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, and that this event is much more important than the commercial aspect that is given way too much focus.

It is this sentiment that had inspired the single released two years ago, and its writer, Fr George Ocar Buttigieg, has been working hard ever since to complete this collection of songs that represent what Christmas is truly about.

As one expects, the featured songs are all based around a religious aspect. There are 21 tracks in all, including three originals. The rest of the tracks are popular international Christmas songs for which Maltese lyrics inspired by the true meaning of this great feast have been purposely written.

The list of singers featured on the CD is rather extensive, and includes many top names from the local music scene, among them Chiara, Enzo Gusman, Georgina, Ivan Grech, Ludwig Galea, Mary Spiteri, Mike Spiteri and many more.

The message is quite evident throughout the album, such as for example on O Siġra tal-Milied which transforms the original version’s pagan aspects into a monument of the Lord, not just a tree under which we place our gifts, but a reminder that the Messiah is about to be born.

In similar fashion, the words to Qniepen Ġmiel have been altered to retain the real person inspiration behind the character of Santa Claus, who is more or less the personification of the materialistic aspect that has taken over Christmas.

A concert to launch the Ħelu Bambin CD takes place on Tuesday at 8pm at the Catholic Institute, Floriana. Entrance is free but booking on 9949 8316 is recommended.

All proceeds from the sale of the CD will go towards helping Dar tal-Providenza run its operation, in keeping with the true sense of Christmas and shorn of any commercial inclination.
