A total 97 primary schools last year voluntarily took part in Dinja Wahda, BirdLife and Bank of Valletta’s environmental education project for schools.

This was announced during the launch of this scholastic year’s Dinja Wahda with a prize giving ceremony opened by Environment Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco.

In celebration of 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity, Dinja Wahda will this year encourage teachers to focus on activities through which children will learn about biodiversity.

Dr de Marco stated that projects like ‘Dinja Wahda’ increased awareness of the environment. Everyone had a personal responsibility towards the preservation of the environment and students should pursue with their commitment towards projects that improved it.
