Updated Friday morning - Some 90 migrants were brought to Malta last night after having been picked up from a dinghy about 25 miles North of Gozo.

Among them are five women.

The migrants were rescued by two AFM patrol boats which berthed at Haywharf Maritime Base shortly before midnight.

Waiting for the migrants were medical personnel, Immigration Department officials and the police, who later escorted the migrants in a fleet of buses to a detention centre.

Hundreds of migrants have been crossing the Mediterranean over the past few days, with Italy having rescued some 2,300 in three days.
