Primary schools from Malta and Gozo have received awards in recognition of their achievements in environmental education through the Dinja Waħda (One World) education programme.

About 83 schools took part in the programme for 2011-12 and were rewarded with trophies or a certificate according to the number of activities they completed.

The programme is run by Birdlife Malta with the support of Bank of Valletta and in collaboration with the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education.

It includes fun and educational school activities as well as practical projects, such as recycling and class excursions to some of Malta’s nature reserves.

Tourism Minister Mario de Marco and Education Minister Dolores Cristina presented schoolchildren with the award on behalf of their schools.

The awards ceremony took place at the launch event of the eighth edition of the Dinja Waħda schools programme, in time for the start of the 2012-13 scholastic year .
