A total of 812 babies were born to single mothers last year, including four to mothers aged under 15, according to information given in reply to a parliamentary question.

The number of babies to single mothers has been on a constant increase and has almost doubled since 2000 when there were 429 births to single mothers.

Health Minister Louis Deguara said 504 of last year's single mothers were aged between 15 and 24 years old.
