An 81-year-old woman was seriously injured in a freak incident late yesterday, the police said.

The accident happened when a 61-year-old man from Mtarfa reversed his Hiace pickup truck and hit a lampost. The lamp at the top fell onto the woman, who was on the pavement.

The woman was hospitalised.

The incident happened at about 8.10 p.m. in St Rita Street, Rabat.
