A 23-year-old Ghanaian national, who was caught red-handed selling drugs, was jailed for eight months and fined €750 after he admitted trafficking in cannabis last year.
Joseph Boatimah was caught by police as he sold two packets of cannabis to another man last October. The man told investigators he bought the drugs from Mr Boatimah for €30.
Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras noted that, even though Mr Boatimah had pleaded guilty, it could not be considered to be an early guilty plea since it came after the prosecution had produced its evidence in court.
Police inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.
