A 78-year-old man from Qormi was grievously injured in a traffic accident this afternoon.

The police said the man was driving a Hillman Hunter when he lost control, hit a van and crashed into a tree.

The van was being driven by a 30-year-old man, also from Qormi.

The elderly man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The accident happened in Triq l-Imdina, Attard at 4pm.
