Since the divorce legislation come into force, there were 284 applications filed at the courts in Malta, of which 69 have been determined. Of the 10 applications filed in Gozo, four have been decided.

Family Minister Chris Said told Ċensu Galea (PN) that, of the applications for divorce filed in Malta, 202 were filed by one of the parties after there was a contract of separation while 52 were filed jointly.

There were also 23 applications while the couples were undergoing separation proceedings while there were seven requests from parties who were not separated.

The minister said that the Maltese courts did not keep records of the localities where the parties lived.

As for Gozo, Dr Said said there were two applications each from Marsalforn and Nadur and one applicant each from Fontana, Għasri, Qala, Victoria, Sannat and Żebbuġ.
