The Tourism Authority yesterday marked the 72nd anniversary of the George Cross award to Malta, the “island fortress”, to honour its “brave people” after World War II. The commemoration started with a display in St George’s Square, Valletta, by the Armed Forces of Malta band, which escorted the George Cross medal inside the President’s Palace. The police band and the silent drill team (above) also participated in the event, which ended with wartime tunes.
