The Resources Ministry is to hold a concert to mark the fifth anniversary of the launching of the 34U Campaign.

Resources Minister George Pullicino said this morning that this had been a very successful scheme which had seen more than 70,000 trees planted across Malta and Gozo. A further 20,000 are set to be planted later this year.

He said the scheme had involved all sectors of society, including many local councils, NGOs, private companies, schools and families who had sponsored and planted trees to mark particularly activities or anniversary. The scheme had also raised awareness about the importance of tree planting for a better environment.

The concert will be held on Friday October 2 at the Manoel Theatre. It will be presented by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and will feature Brian Cefai and Friends, international conductor Paul Max Edlin, soprano Michelle Cachia Castelletti, baritone Louis Cassar and soprano Stephanie Degiorgio Wismayer. The concert will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The minister said a further initiative to promote tree planting would be a 3 4 Graduates, through which University and MCAST students would be encouraged to mark their graduation day by planting a tree.

The minister thanked the sponsors of the tree planting campaign, particularly Vodafone, HSBC, Vassallo Builders, Le Merdien and Tumas Group.
