A total 6,467 cases of pick-pocketing were reported to the police between 2008 and 2014, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said today.

Replying to a Parliamentary question by Labour MP Anthony Agius Decelis, the minister said the number rose steadily year after year from 498 in 2008 to 1,539 last year.

Most cases, 3,378, were reported in St Julian’s, followed by Sliema (1,079) and Valletta (785).

Most theft reports received were about stolen cash, followed by credit cards and equipment.
