A total of 65 prisoners benefitted from parole in three years: 24 in 2015, 23 in 2016 and 18 in 2017.

Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia gave the information on Monday in response to a parliamentary question by MP Chris Said.

The minister also advised that in 2015, two inmates got parole after they had served more than half of their sentence, and eight when they got half way through, while the corresponding figures for 2016 were three and 14.

In 2017, four got parole in the latter half of their sentence and eight when they reached the mid point.
