About 63,000 senior citizens have a Tallinja card, that is, more than 60 per cent of the population aged over 60.

Malta Public Transport said this was a major milestone in the plan to change the culture of bus ticketing in Malta. It was also an important indicator of the mobility of elderly people benefitting from reduced fares of 25c per journey and a maximum daily capping of 50c.

The company also said that the temporary 30c concession for children, Kartanzjan and Special ID holders for tickets bought aboard the bus would only be available until the end of this month.

From October 1, only the €2 ticket will be available when paying in cash on board. For more information, call 2122 2000.
