The government has received 62 freedom of information requests since the act came into force, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this evening.

Replying to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Clyde Puli, Dr Muscat said 33 requests had been acceded to, 18 refused and four were being evaluated.

Seven requests were withdrawn by the originators or were not applicable.

Dr Muscat said the requests had been received from broadcasting media and private individuals.

Requests had been refused either because the requested information had already been in the public domain, because the information could not be quantified or because legal procedures were under way.
