Eleven councils and Transport Malta are to benefit from €11.3 million for the upgrade of 61 rural roads.

The works will be cofinanced by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, European Funds Parliamentary Secretary Aaron Farrugia said.

He said more than 270,000 square metres of roads will be covered and some 1,000 growers and farmers will benefit directly.

Agriculture Parliamentary Secretary Clint Camilleri said the upgrade will mean better access to fields.

The councils that will be benefitting are Attard, Birżebbuġa, Gudja, Mġarr, Żabbar, Żebbuġ (Gozo), Kerċem, Għarb, Nadur, Sannat, and Xagħra. Other localities will be benefitting through Transport Malta projects.
