A total of 54 companies have benefited from assistance under the Grant Scheme for Tourism Enterprises 2004-2006, Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco said today.

The scheme was divided in two parts covering funding and training.

Speaking during a tour of the Victoria Hotel, one of the enterprises which benefited from the scheme, Dr de Marco said the purpose of the assistance was to sustain and improve Malta's competitiveness as a tourist destination.

The Victoria Hotel used the assistance available under the scheme for the installation of a room energy management system.

Other companies benefited from the scheme for refurbishment, investment in IT systems, the drawing up of business studies, product development, environmental and accessibility improvements, the building of visitor facilities and even the building of an aircraft hangar - by the Aviation Museum.
