A total of 51 students graduated from the International Maritime Law Institute at the weekend.
During the ceremony, 42 students from 34 countries were awarded the degree of Master of Laws (LLM) in international maritime law, seven students from seven countries were awarded the degree of Master of Humanities (MHum) in international maritime legislation, and two more students were awarded an Advanced Diploma in International Maritime Law.
Three of the graduates are Maltese. The 29th annual graduation ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Ian Borg and Foreign Minister Carmelo Abela.
Maritime sector is now better equipped
Mr Abela presented the Maltese Government Prize for best performance in the law of the sea.
While congratulating the winner and all the other graduates on their well-deserved success, he expressed Malta’s pride in hosting the International Maritime Law Institute, while reiterating the government’s continued support for the organisation.
Mr Abela stated that Malta’s foreign policy would continue to prioritise the maritime sector and promote further international efforts on ocean governance.
During the ceremony, Dr Borg presented the Transport Malta Prize for best performance in shipping law.
He congratulated the recipient, as well as all of the other graduates, on their achievements, while stating that the maritime sector was now better equipped, given their talents in the field.
