Lifeguards of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps yesterday assisted some 50 tired swimmers at the Blue Lagoon in Comino. None were hospitalized.

Due to the lack of sea transportation between Comino and Cominotto, the swimmers were trying to cross between the two islands by walking in the sea across the Blue Lagoon carrying their belongings raised over their heads.

Sea currents made it difficult for them to keep afloat and are dragged them sideways.

The lifeguarding service at the Blue Lagoon in Comino is possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority. Support is also provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Mgarr Marina, Transport Malta, Police, Armed Forces of Malta, Police and the Civil Protection Department.
