4. Experience one of The Royal Opera’s most popular productions

Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata will be broadcast live at the Eden Cinemas on February 4 at 7.45pm. Verdi’s classic production conveys the indulgent social whirl of 19th-century Paris. The story follows the glamorous life of the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valery, one of opera’s greatest heroines. Based on the real life courtesan Marie Duplessis, who died in 1847, aged 23; discover her life’s darker undercurrents.

In Richard Eyre’s revival, Violetta is sung by Russian soprano Venera Gimadieva in her debut with The Royal Opera, following her successful appearance as Violetta at the Glyndebourne Festival. Discover Verdi’s most complex and enduring characters through his tuneful scores, which includes such favourites as Violetta’s introspective Ah fors’è lui, the ecstatic Sempre Libera, the duet Pura siccome un angelo and Parigi, o cara.

Gimadieva will be accompanied by Saimir Prigu, performing the role of Alfredo Germont. Giorgio Germont will be performed by Luca Salsi, under conductor Yves Abel. Tickets are available online.
