A group of 43 migrants was brought to Malta by a patrol boat this morning after their dinghy started taking in water 39 miles south of Malta.

The patrol boat had been monitoring the dinghy, from which two pregnant migrants, one of them about to give birth, were rescued yesterday,

The migrants had to abandon their quest to reach mainland Europe when the dinghy started taking in water shortly before 11 p.m.

The migrants were transferred to P -32 which arrived in Malta at dawn.

The group consisted of 35 men and eight women, another one of whom was pregnant.
