The number of vehicles added to Malta’s roads has gone up by nearly 40,000 in just three years, reaching 383,000 by the end of September.

The National Statistics Office reported on Thursday that around 35 vehicles a day were still being put on the roads during the third quarter, down from the record 47 a day in the second quarter. These figures are the net increase.

During the three-month period between July and September, 2,526 vehicles were re-sold, and 2,159 were scrapped. A total of 2,055 vehicles were garaged.

The shift towards used vehicles has continued, with 8,965 new vehicles purchased in the first nine months of the year, compared with 11,165 used ones.
