The government has allocated €400,000 in the Budget for the start of works on the restoration of the President’s Palace in Valletta.

The restoration process will start in the area occupied by the Attorney General’s Office and will then be extended to the former Armoury once Parliament moves to the new building at City Gate.

Delivering the Budget Speech, the minister did not give any spending estimates for the City Gate project (which will be funded separately at a cost of €80m)

He said, however, that €2 million will be allocated for further paving works in Valletta and work will continue on the transformation of Biagio Steps into an interactove centre on the fortifications. €250,000 will for for preparatory work for Malta’s hosting of the European Cultural Capital in 2018.
