A 36-hour sports marathon will be held at the seminary sports complex in Victoria between Saturday and next Sunday.

The logo Għin biex trebbaħna (Help so we can win) and the official song give the marathon an identity – to help out people who are facing problems and winning over these problems. It’s an invitation to youngsters – to use sports in order to avoid and win over certain bad habits such as drugs and alcohol.

The marathon will kick off on Saturday morning with the parading of the torch along Victoria streets, followed by the opening ceremony and Mass for all athletes.

Events will include football tournaments, aerobics, handball, billiards, table-tennis and playstation and duel competitions. ‘Sports for All’ and ‘Girls on the Move’ programmes will also be held.

Around 1,000 people will be involved in the marathon, including singers, dancers and volunteers.

An entertaining show will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. It will include a BMX street show, gladiator duels, a fashion show by Arkadia, songs and dancing by the Waterfall Dancers, the YADA Dance Group, JA Dancers and the Rhythmatic Dance Group.

Sunday will be dedicated to the family. Shows will start at 5 p.m. and will include the Barney Animation Show, dance and sing-along by Gozo Bubbles Entertainment, and a fashion show by Arkadia. The Centre Stage Academy and the Gozo Line Dancers will also take part.

There will also be a children’s area featuring a bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modelling.

Trophies and awards will be presented.

Entrance on both days is free and spot prizes will be drawn.
