Attempts are being made to save a 300-year-old protected Aleppo Pine tree which was deliberately set on fire in the past days.

The Mellieha council in a statement condemned what it described as a cowardly attack in the zone known as l-Ballut tal-Imgiebah and said it was in contact with the Agriculture Department to try to save the tree.

The police are investigating.

The council encouraged people who had information about the incident to pass it on to the authorities.
